Move Slowly
Move slowly on me.
Instead of a 45 minute walk,
take two hours.
Stop. Frequently.
Look at this shrub.
That flower.
See how this vine with purple flowers
winds around a restio reed.
See this snake track.
This ant hill, see how well it is hidden.
Hear yourself asking:
These tracks, are they from a beetle?
This animal dung, who made that?
Slowly, child, slowly.
So you can take it all in.
The leopard spoor.
The bushman paintings.
The raven flying overhead.
I will reveal so much
to those who are patient.
And if you are open enough
I will lead you back
to yourself.
